In 2016, India hosted the first ever Global Citizen Festival outside of New York City. In the ever bustling city of Mumbai, Global Citizen Festival India stood witness to 28 commitments, worth INR 43,447 crore (USD 6.38 billion), being made by the likes of the Government of Maharashtra, Hindustan Unilever Limited, and Yuva Unstoppable. Together, these commitments are all set to affect 55.96 crore (559.56 million) lives by 2030.
A festival of this scale, with these many international big ticket names Coldplay, Jay Z and Demi Lovato has occurred for the first time in India. An estimated 80,000 people attended Global Citizen India on Nov. 19, catching dignitaries, Bollywood actors and established musicians on one gigantic stage.
The first ever Global Citizen Festival to be held in Asia was easily the biggest music festival produced in India.
Other performers included A. R. Rahman, The Vamps, Arijit Singh, Shraddha Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Monali Thakur, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, and Amitabh Bachchan. There were also appearances by Indian film actors Shah Rukh Khan, Parineeti Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Arjun Kapoor, and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
